Executive Publisher – Journal Portfolio Lead

About the role

Springer Nature is seeking an Executive Publisher to lead and grow its North American society journal portfolio. Based in New York with a hybrid working model, you will shape editorial strategy, drive performance, and nurture relationships with editors, societies, and research communities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing publishing team, setting clear objectives and fostering a positive, engaged environment.
• Define and execute portfolio strategy, using data‑driven KPIs to improve author experience, content acquisition, and editorial service levels.
• Build strong relationships with Editors‑in‑Chief, editorial board members, peer reviewers, and society partners, identifying community needs and market trends.
• Ensure excellent service delivery for publishing partners, proactively addressing issues and expanding collaborations with societies and associations.
• Implement new workflows, systems, and policies in partnership with internal stakeholders, applying market intelligence to guide decisions.
• Participate in cross‑departmental projects and working groups to contribute to the broader Journals Division.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in academic or scientific publishing, preferably with society journals.
• Strong track record of driving growth, performance, and editorial development.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with editors, societies, and research communities.
• Data‑oriented mindset with ability to set, monitor, and act on KPIs.
• Ability to manage change, adopt new workflows, and collaborate across functions.
