Executive General Adjuster

About the role

Sedgwick is hiring an Executive General Adjuster in Miami. The role investigates international claims of any size or complexity against insurance or other companies for personal, casualty or property loss or damage, and works to settle them out of court.

Key responsibilities

• Handle complex losses locally unassisted up to a designated authority, and assist on larger losses including accounting-based losses such as business interruption and stock.
• Examine claim forms and other records to determine insurance coverage.
• Interview, telephone or correspond with claimants and witnesses, consult police and hospital records and inspect property damage to assess liability.
• Estimate the cost of repair, replacement or compensation, prepare a report of findings and negotiate settlements.
• Recommend litigation by the legal department when settlement cannot be reached, attend litigation hearings and revise case reserves.
• Prepare loss experience reports to help determine profitability and calculate future rates.
• Support the organization's quality programs, travel as required and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
• Active IIA-AIC designation and active pursuit of another professional insurance designation.
• Appropriate state adjuster license required.
• Five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to handle work-related stress, multiple priorities and deadlines, and to work independently or in a team.
• Physical ability to stand or walk for long periods, work outdoors in hot or cold weather, lift up to 50 pounds and pull up to 100 pounds, and drive up to 4 hours per day.
