Executive Director, University Recreation

About the role

The Executive Director of University Recreation leads the university’s comprehensive recreation program, overseeing facilities, programs, and staff to promote student wellbeing and engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership for more than 300 professional and student staff across recreation, fitness, aquatics, intramurals, outdoor adventure, and youth programs.
• Manage an annual operating revenue exceeding $13 million, conducting short‑ and long‑term financial forecasting.
• Ensure safety, maintenance, and compliance of all recreation facilities, including the Student Recreation Complex, pools, field complex, and satellite sites.
• Oversee the quality and accessibility of programs such as fitness classes, intramural sports, adventure education, and aquatics, meeting certification and safety standards.
• Serve as a strategic leader within the Division of Student Affairs and contribute to university‑wide initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing large, multi‑disciplinary teams in a higher‑education or large‑scale recreation setting.
• Demonstrated ability to oversee multi‑million‑dollar budgets and revenue streams.
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices for recreation facilities and programs.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
