Executive Director, Project Portfolio - PMO

About the role

The University of Miami seeks an Executive Director of Portfolio Management to lead its Enterprise Project Management Office (ePMO). Based on the Coral Gables campus, this senior leader will oversee the university’s most impactful academic and administrative initiatives, ensuring they are delivered efficiently and align with strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide oversight and direction for President‑level and C‑suite initiatives, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities.
• Collaborate with the Strategy & Transformation office and other departments to coordinate timing, scope, and dependencies across projects.
• Lead the planning, prioritization, and execution of university‑wide projects using a proactive, outcome‑oriented approach.
• Manage the project intake and chartering processes, defining objectives, roles, and success metrics before launch.
• Maintain a comprehensive view of the full project portfolio, anticipating conflicts, overlapping milestones, and coordination needs.
• Develop and sustain reporting cadences, drive ownership across workstreams, and ensure smooth transition of completed initiatives into ongoing operations.

Required profile

• Senior executive experience overseeing large‑scale, cross‑functional initiatives in a higher‑education or complex organizational environment.
• Proven ability to partner with academic and administrative leaders to provide governance, insight, and delivery excellence.
• Strong strategic mindset with a bias toward anticipating needs rather than reacting to issues.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
