Evening Supervisor & Student Experience Specialist

About the role

The Evening Supervisor & Student Experience Specialist ensures a welcoming, patron‑centered environment during peak evening and weekend hours at Carleton College Library. The role combines operational oversight, mentorship of student staff, and user‑experience research to enhance library services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage circulation services, including borrowing, renewal, returns, and loanable technology.
• Serve as the sole professional staff member on evening/weekend shifts, handling issues and maintaining safety.
• Supervise library closing procedures and secure the building.
• Guide patrons in using library spaces and equipment such as microfilm readers, printers, and scanners.
• Mentor and train student employees to deliver responsive, patron‑focused service.
• Process evening and weekend course reserve requests.
• Support and set up library events during evenings and weekends.
• Conduct user research to improve student experience during off‑peak hours.

Required profile

• Strong customer‑service orientation with a focus on accessibility.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions during unsupervised hours.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with patrons and student staff.
• Flexibility to adapt schedule around academic calendars and exam periods.

Required skills

• Familiarity with library circulation systems and loanable technology.
• Experience using microfilm equipment, printers, and scanners.
