Estimator / Project Manager – Heavy Civil & Mining

About the role

MacKay Contracting seeks an experienced Estimator / Project Manager to drive the pursuit, winning, and execution of heavy civil and mining projects across the Western United States. You will move beyond a desk‑only estimating function, working closely with clients, field teams, and senior leadership to shape project strategy from opportunity identification through delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate heavy civil, mining and infrastructure opportunities throughout the Western U.S., assessing risk and strategic fit.
• Develop detailed estimates, quantity takeoffs, pricing, schedules, and bid strategies that reflect how the work will be built.
• Build and maintain relationships with owners, engineers, general contractors, suppliers and subcontractors to stay informed on market conditions.
• Lead projects from award through planning, mobilization and execution, managing cost, schedule, contracts, changes, subcontractors and client communication.
• Collaborate with estimating, operations and field leadership to ensure bids are competitive and executable.

Required profile

• Proven experience in heavy civil or mining construction estimating and project management.
• Strong ability to assess opportunities, influence project selection and drive execution on site.
• Excellent understanding of civil construction processes, equipment, materials and labor markets in the Western U.S.
• Demonstrated relationship‑building skills with owners, engineers and subcontractors.
