Environmental Protection Manager (Level 2) – Drinking Water Program

About the role

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division is seeking a Level 2 Environmental Protection Manager to lead its Drinking Water Program. This role oversees multiple units responsible for permitting, compliance, inspections, and source‑water assessment across more than 2,400 public water systems.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the Drinking Water Permitting Unit, Compliance Unit, Inspection Team, and Source Water Assessment Team.
• Oversee source‑water protection, permitting, plan approvals, compliance monitoring, plant inspections, laboratory certification, and consumer‑complaint investigations.
• Implement the State Environmental Review Process for projects funded by the Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds.
• Assist in grant application preparation and administer technical‑assistance contracts with training partners.
• Develop and revise drinking‑water regulations, coordinating stakeholder processes and adhering to the state rule‑adoption framework.
• Prepare and submit all required EPA reports, including Annual Compliance, Operator Certification, Capacity Development, Public Water System Supervision, and grant reports.

Required profile

• Graduate degree in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Engineering (Agricultural, Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Sanitary) or a related field is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and at least four years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of the Safe Drinking Water Act, Georgia Water Supply Act, Georgia Water Well Standards Act, and National Primary Drinking Water Regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple partners and stakeholders.
