Environmental Modeler – Air Quality (Modeler 1)

About the role

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division is seeking an entry‑level Modeler to support air‑quality analysis and permitting. You will work within the Data and Modeling Unit to apply dispersion models that evaluate the impact of emissions on ambient air quality.

Key responsibilities

• Perform dispersion modeling for quarry, toxic air pollutant, and PSD permit applications.
• Conduct special‑project modeling using a variety of air‑quality models.
• Develop and maintain facility‑level emission inventories.
• Interpret model results and prepare technical reports for stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering discipline.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Preference for advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) and background in meteorological modeling or atmospheric chemistry.
• Familiarity with EPA air‑permitting rules and guidance.

Required skills

• AERMOD, AERMET, AERMAP, AERSCREEN, AERSURFACE, BPIPPRIM, CALPUFF, ISC3, SCREEN3, Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) model.
• Scientific programming languages: FORTRAN, Python.
• Database management: Microsoft ACCESS, MySQL.
• Geographic Information System (GIS) proficiency.
