Environmental Engineer I/II – Petroleum Restoration

About the role

The Orange County Environmental Protection Division is seeking an Engineer I or II to join the Petroleum Restoration Program. This role focuses on the assessment and remediation of petroleum‑contaminated sites across the county.

Key responsibilities

• Manage site assessments, research site histories, and develop remediation scopes of work.
• Review technical reports for compliance with Florida Administrative Code Chapters 62‑780 & 62‑777 and FDEP guidance.
• Prepare review letters, task approval letters, and technical documentation.
• Maintain and utilize multiple databases and spreadsheet tracking systems for project funding and progress.
• Coordinate with consultants, contractors, property owners, and responsible parties, including purchase order management and invoice verification.
• Conduct site visits, operation and maintenance inspections, and lead meetings (in‑person or virtual).
• Attend FDEP training, teleconferences, and continuing‑education events.
• Support the Professional Engineer and Geologist on technical matters and project decisions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Ability to work under the supervision of the program’s Professional Engineer.
• Strong analytical and project‑management capabilities.
