Environmental Data Specialist

About the role

The Environmental Data Specialist supports interdisciplinary projects across water research, land stewardship, water planning and policy, and sustainable communities. The role blends environmental science, quantitative analysis, modeling, coding, and data management to help staff and partners understand complex environmental systems and enable science‑based decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct quantitative analysis of environmental datasets related to water resources, watershed conditions, land management, climate, and infrastructure.
• Develop, apply, and evaluate environmental models to assess conditions, evaluate scenarios, and support project management decisions.
• Create scripts, analytical tools, and automated workflows using Python, R, or SQL to process, analyze, model, and visualize data.
• Integrate datasets from field observations, laboratory results, GIS, remote sensing, monitoring networks, and public sources.
• Produce maps, dashboards, reports, and other visualizations to communicate findings to researchers, communities, and decision‑makers.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Water Resources, Hydrology, Ecology, Geography, or a closely related field.
• Proven experience analyzing environmental or water‑resource datasets and applying GIS for spatial analysis.
• Demonstrated ability to develop, calibrate, and validate environmental or hydrologic models.
• Experience maintaining reproducible data workflows, documentation, and metadata.
