Entry-Level Buyer – Purchasing Office

About the role

The Purchasing Office at West Texas A&M University is seeking an entry‑level Buyer I to support the acquisition of supplies, equipment and routine services. This full‑time onsite position offers the opportunity to develop procurement skills while ensuring compliance with university policies.

Key responsibilities

• Receive requisitions, secure bids, evaluate quotations and award standard purchases.
• Prepare purchase specifications and issue purchase orders in accordance with policies.
• Maintain accurate records of requisitions, bids, awards and purchase orders.
• Assist the purchasing manager with invoice processing and requisition routing.
• Complete required system, university and job‑specific online training courses on schedule.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to obtain CTD (Certified Contract Developer) certification within 12 months of hire.
• Strong verbal and written communication, multitasking and teamwork abilities.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Required skills

• Proficiency with word processing applications (e.g., Microsoft Word).
• Proficiency with spreadsheet applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel).
