Entry Level Aerostat Operator – TARS Program

About the role

QinetiQ US is seeking an entry‑level Aerostat Operator to support the Tethered Aerostat Radar System (TARS) program. You will join a flight‑crew team responsible for pre‑launch, launch, ascent, station‑keeping, and recovery of large aerostats that provide persistent surveillance along the U.S. Southern border.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with pre‑flight and post‑flight activities, including helium topping, snubbing, inflation/deflation, and tether inspections.
• Execute launch, ascent, transition, station‑keeping, and recovery procedures under supervision.
• Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on pressure‑control, power, mechanical, and hydraulic subsystems.
• Maintain aerostat hardware and radar system components.
• Support site operations such as security, landscaping, and logistics as needed.

Required profile

• Entry‑level candidate with a willingness to learn aerostat flight operations.
• Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
• Strong attention to safety and emergency‑procedure compliance.
• Physical capability to handle equipment and perform manual tasks.

Required skills
