Entry Level Accountant (Contract)

About the role

We are seeking an entry‑level accountant to join a non‑profit organization in New York on a contract basis, with the possibility of a permanent position. The role focuses on accurate payroll processing, reconciliations and supporting month‑end close activities.

Key responsibilities

• Process semi‑monthly payroll for hourly employees with high accuracy and timeliness.
• Review payroll data, validate earnings and deductions, and resolve discrepancies before submission.
• Complete bank and credit‑card reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Prepare and post payroll‑related journal entries to the general ledger.
• Assist with month‑end close by reconciling payroll accounts and providing supporting documentation.
• Support accounts payable tasks, including expense coding and related financial processing.
• Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with internal procedures and applicable regulations.

Required profile

• Strong payroll experience, preferably full‑cycle and high‑volume.
• Attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
• Background supporting multi‑state, semi‑monthly payroll schedules.
• Prior exposure to accounts payable functions is preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now (Dayforce experience is a plus).
• Bank and credit‑card reconciliation.
• General ledger posting and journal entry preparation.
• Accounts payable processing and expense coding.
