About the role
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking an English Language Learning Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This unpaid position supports the Adult Education Specialist in delivering ESOL and cultural orientation classes to refugees and newcomers, helping them build language proficiency and integrate into their new communities.
Key responsibilities
- Attend scheduled ESOL and Cultural Orientation classes.
- Arrive early to coordinate daily classroom activities with the teacher.
- Assist students with assignments and classroom tasks.
- Set up and tear down classroom materials for Cultural Orientation sessions.
- Provide supervision for young children when present.
- Help integrate digital literacy tools into lessons.
- Perform data entry and occasional child‑watch or transportation duties.
- Record hours and submit monthly timesheets via the IRC Volunteer Dashboard.
Required profile
- Currently pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate or graduate degree.
- Patient, reliable, and flexible.
- Interest in global environments and languages (a plus).
- Personal vehicle helpful but not required.
- Willingness to work unpaid and report to the Adult Education Specialist.
