Engineering Technician

About the role

IRPI is seeking an Engineering Technician to support the design and production of spaceflight hardware. Working in a hands‑on lab environment, you will turn engineering concepts into physical test rigs and flight‑qualified components for NASA and commercial partners.

Key responsibilities

• Build, assemble and modify test rigs and experimental setups under engineer guidance.
• Fabricate mechanical assemblies from drawings, CAD models and verbal instructions.
• Operate and maintain laser‑ablation manufacturing equipment, including fixturing and quality checks.
• Post‑process 3D‑printed parts (support removal, curing, surface finishing, inspection) for both FDM and SLA processes.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on lab, shop and test equipment; troubleshoot and coordinate repairs.
• Support test campaigns by setting up instrumentation, handling hardware turnover and documenting results.
• Maintain an organized, safe, and well‑stocked shop and lab, tracking consumables and tooling.
• Document builds, maintenance activities and as‑built configurations; flag design or manufacturability issues.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience as a technician, machinist, fabricator or similar mechanical role.
• U.S. citizenship or nationality (required for export‑controlled technology).

Required skills

• Laser‑ablation manufacturing equipment operation.
• 3D‑printing post‑processing (FDM and SLA).
• Mechanical assembly from engineering drawings and CAD models.
• Preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of lab/shop equipment.
• Instrumentation setup for hardware testing.
