Engineering Manager, Forward Deployed Engineering - Migrations

About the role

Snowflake is seeking a Manager, Frontier Engineering (Migrations) to sit at the intersection of customer delivery and product engineering. This is a hybrid role: you will lead a team of forward-deployed engineers who work directly with customers and partners on complex migration projects, while also driving the development of AI-powered migration tools and products. The team bridges field realities and product innovation, turning migration patterns into scalable, automated solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a team of Forward Deployed Engineers, recruit, hire and onboard new members, and support their career development
• Provide strategic oversight of migration projects and lead teams executing migrations from legacy systems (Oracle, Teradata, Netezza, SQL Server, etc.) to the Snowflake platform
• Act as the primary escalation point for delivery concerns, working with customers and system integrators, and stay hands-on on strategic projects
• Collaborate with sales teams to scope opportunities, develop proposals and run account strategy
• Drive the design and iteration of AI-powered migration tools, including code translation, developer co-pilots and semantic validation
• Translate field insights into engineering roadmap items and collaborate with Engineering and Product Management
• Share best practices, utilities and accelerators, and present to technical and executive audiences

Required profile

• University degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• 7+ years of technical roles involving customer-facing delivery and engineering
• 5+ years of people management experience
• 3+ years building and delivering enterprise software products, especially with AI/ML or developer tools
• Demonstrated success leading teams through complex data platform migrations and cloud transformation projects

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with Oracle, Teradata, Netezza, SQL Server, Greenplum, Hadoop and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Familiarity with Informatica, DataStage, Talend, Matillion, dbt, Tableau, MicroStrategy and Business Objects
• Extensive SQL, SQL analytics and scripting (Python, Perl, Bash)
• Ability to act as PM, program manager or architect when needed, and strong experience scoping engagements
