About the role
The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) seeks an Engineer I to support regulatory, preparedness, and community protection programs. The role involves on‑site inspections, risk‑management plan evaluation, and assistance to regulated facilities in meeting state and federal requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct onsite inspections of facilities and evaluate compliance with environmental regulations.
- Review Risk Management Plans, technical documentation, and permit applications for accuracy and regulatory adherence.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and track corrective actions through established databases.
- Support enforcement activities and assist in the development and modification of engineering designs, plans, and specifications.
- Participate in field studies, surveys, and research projects to collect data and ensure conformance to applicable laws.
Required profile
- Must be a new hire to the State of Delaware or new to the Engineer classification series within the state.
- Commitment to two consecutive years of employment in the Engineer I‑IV series.
- Ability to apply scientific and mathematical principles to solve technical problems.

- Sign‑on bonus of $4,000 paid in two installments (after 3 months and after 18 months of employment).
