Engineer I (Construction Estimating)

About the role

Granite is seeking an Engineer I to support construction projects by providing technical engineering and cost information. The role ensures that all work complies with engineering standards, project budgets, and schedules while supporting field crews and project managers.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with job controls to maintain compliance with contract terms, budget, schedule, forecasting and job costing.
• Interpret design drawings for craft workers and verify that installations meet specifications.
• Research and resolve drawing interpretation issues, conflicts, interferences and errors.
• Prepare and distribute status reports, punch lists, sketches, material requirement calculations and other documentation.
• Provide technical support for material controls, delivery dates, construction schedules and design requirements.
• Create drawings and sketches for change orders, estimates and construction work.
• Develop quantity take‑offs, material price lists, labor costs and equipment data for accurate estimates and bids.
• Research historical productivity data to produce summary reports and guidelines for future estimates.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent technical training and experience.
• 0‑2 years of experience in construction estimating support, engineering, field support or a similar role.
• Working knowledge of construction equipment, techniques, drawings, specifications and building materials.
• Ability to perform trigonometric calculations manually or with a calculator.
• Strong communication and responsibility, with the ability to interface effectively with team members.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience using scheduling software.
• Familiarity with AGTEK Take‑off software.
• Ability to perform trigonometric calculations.
