About the role
The Building Performance & Energy Assessor will conduct facility condition assessments, energy audits and performance evaluations for a variety of commercial, institutional, municipal and multifamily properties. The role blends traditional building assessments with energy and sustainability consulting, supporting clients in reducing operating costs and achieving ESG and Net‑Zero goals.
Key responsibilities
- Perform on‑site Facility Condition Assessments, ASHRAE Level I‑III energy audits, mechanical equipment evaluations and BEMS/BAS diagnostics.
- Analyze utility data, conduct ENERGY STAR and carbon benchmarking, and develop energy‑ and water‑saving calculations with ROI estimates.
- Prepare detailed technical reports that include findings, capital improvement recommendations, and sustainability strategies.
- Develop building energy models using tools such as eQUEST, DesignBuilder, TREAT, Trane TRACE, Wrightsoft or RemRate.
- Travel up to 50 % of the time to client sites across the United States.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Building Science or related field with at least three years of relevant experience, or five years of progressive experience in lieu of a degree.
- Strong knowledge of commercial building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, envelope, lighting, controls).
- Ability to conduct field surveys, interview stakeholders and document building conditions accurately.
Required skills
- ASHRAE energy auditing methodologies (Level I‑III).
- Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS/BAS) diagnostics.
- Utility benchmarking and ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.
- Carbon benchmarking and sustainability reporting.
- Energy modeling software (eQUEST, DesignBuilder, TREAT, Trane TRACE, Wrightsoft, RemRate).
- Microsoft Office Suite, AssetCalc, Quire.
