Employment Specialist – Refugee Workforce Development

About the role

The International Rescue Committee seeks an Employment Specialist in Iowa City to help newly arrived refugees and qualified immigrants achieve self‑sufficiency through employment services.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct intake, assessment, and orientation for clients eligible for employment services.
• Develop individualized employment plans, provide job‑readiness coaching, and connect clients with job opportunities.
• Build and maintain relationships with local employers and staffing agencies.
• Assist with post‑placement issues, monitor client job performance, and track metrics.
• Document client interactions in databases and collaborate with partner organizations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of workforce development experience, preferably with refugee or immigrant populations.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.
• Ability to travel within the service area, including occasional evenings or weekends.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong relationship‑building, networking, and multicultural communication skills.
• Detail‑oriented data entry and reporting abilities.
