Employee In Charge (Railroad Safety)

About the role

The Employee in Charge (EIC) provides essential on‑track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems and other rail partners. Working primarily in Tyler, TX, the role ensures that all work on the rights‑of‑way is performed safely and in compliance with federal, state and company policies.

Key responsibilities

• Set up derails, track signs and other safety tools to protect active tracks.
• Prepare daily field reports and document any rule violations.
• Coordinate job‑site activities and maintain radio contact with dispatchers and train crews.
• Conduct clear, concise briefings with crew members before they enter the track.
• Enforce all railroad, state and federal safety policies.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a railroad company, preferably in the maintenance‑of‑way department.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for extended periods.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail‑oriented with strong organizational abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with tablets, smartphones and other communication tools.
• Radio communication equipment operation.
• Knowledge of railroad safety procedures and the ability to set up safety devices such as derails and signs.
