Emergency Preparedness Manager – Wildfire

About the role
The Emergency Preparedness Manager – Wildfire leads the planning, coordination, and continuous improvement of wildfire mitigation and response capabilities for Duke Energy’s distribution and transmission operations. This position bridges enterprise wildfire strategy with field execution, ensuring risk‑informed decisions become actionable operational plans.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain readiness procedures, escalation protocols, training programs, and drills for wildfire events.
- Coordinate cross‑functional teams—including Operations, Meteorology, Vegetation Management, Communications, and Government Relations—to align preparedness actions.
- Serve as the primary liaison with county and state emergency operations centers, public safety agencies, and mutual assistance partners.
- Provide strategic direction, situational awareness, and response support to Incident Command and business leaders during active wildfire incidents.
- Ensure wildfire preparedness practices meet regulatory expectations, industry standards, and risk‑management objectives.
Required profile
- Proven experience in emergency management, wildfire mitigation, or related safety functions within the energy sector.
- Strong understanding of power grid operations and the impact of wildfires on critical infrastructure.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external emergency agencies.
- Excellent communication skills for briefing senior leadership and public stakeholders.
Required skills
- Knowledge of wildfire risk modeling and meteorological data interpretation.
- Familiarity with emergency response frameworks and Incident Command System (ICS).
- Experience developing training, drills, and escalation procedures.
