Emergency MEAL Coordinator – Global Surge Team

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking an Emergency Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Coordinator to join its Global Surge Team. This short‑term, high‑impact role deploys to emergency contexts to lead MEAL activities, ensure data‑driven decision‑making, and support knowledge transfer to long‑term staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lead rapid multi‑sector needs assessments, from design through analysis and reporting.
• Develop assessment plans, budgets, tools, and data‑collection schedules.
• Set up and manage mobile data‑collection platforms (e.g., Kobo, CommCare).
• Conduct daily data‑quality checks and address issues promptly.
• Provide technical assistance, capacity‑building, mentoring, and training to IRC and partner staff on MEAL concepts.
• Support the hand‑over of responsibilities to long‑term teams to ensure programme continuity.

Required profile

• Proven experience in humanitarian MEAL or related monitoring and evaluation roles.
• Ability to deploy on short notice and work in fast‑moving emergency environments.
• Strong leadership and communication skills to guide multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Commitment to applying data and learning for continuous programme improvement.
