Emergency Management Specialist

About the role

The Office of Emergency Management at Georgetown University seeks a dedicated Emergency Management Specialist to support preparedness, response, and recovery activities across its campuses. This role will primarily serve the Capitol Campus while providing support university‑wide, requiring 24/7 availability during emergencies and planned events.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, revise, and operationalize the University Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and Continuity of Operations (COOP) Plan.
• Design, implement, and evaluate emergency preparedness training, exercises, and after‑action reviews.
• Support emergency communications and staff the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during incidents.
• Coordinate outreach and education programs with students, faculty, staff, public safety, and external agencies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• 1–2 years of experience in emergency management, community outreach, or related fields.
• Ability to work under stressful, emotionally charged conditions and maintain discretion.
• Physical ability to lift up to 20 lb and navigate campus terrain.

Required skills

• Knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS).
• Familiarity with Comprehensive Preparedness Guide (CPG) 101.
• Experience with the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP).
