Embedded Software Product Developer

About the role

3M is seeking an Embedded Software Product Developer to join its global team of innovators. You will work on real‑time Linux‑based automation solutions for electromechanical systems, collaborating with hardware, firmware, and systems engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain PREEMPT‑RT Linux software for automated motion‑control systems.
• Design interfaces between embedded firmware, DSPs, sensors, and higher‑level applications.
• Create system services, drivers, and middleware that support deterministic, real‑time operation.
• Implement coordinated control over EtherCAT fieldbus, integrating motors, encoders, sensors and actuators.
• Integrate machine‑vision and AI Edge inspection subsystems and operator HMI.
• Support architecture, integration, testing and deployment of next‑generation automation products.
• Collaborate with suppliers and external partners to scale solutions and generate IP.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• At least three years of C/C++ development experience for embedded systems.
• Three or more years working with real‑time operating systems such as PREEMPT‑RT Linux.
• Experience in multithreaded and concurrent software design, inter‑process communication and complex hardware/software debugging.
• Proficiency with source‑control tools.
