About the role

The Electronics Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing complex antenna and electronic subsystems used in high‑performance environments. The role requires hands‑on troubleshooting, integration, and documentation of both analog and digital circuits.

Key responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain antenna servo systems, chopping secondary mirror systems, de‑ice systems, power distribution, and other electronic/electrical subsystems.
  • Fabricate mechanical assemblies and electronic hardware including chassis, cables, connectors (MS, D, JDC, coax), power supplies, junction boxes, terminal strips, and multilayer circuit boards from schematics.
  • Execute test procedures, integrate and troubleshoot electronic circuits using SMA‑approved methods.
  • Perform hands‑on debugging of electromechanical subsystems such as transporter electronics, generators, batteries, antennas, 480 VAC wiring, and motor/brake systems.
  • Document all maintenance actions and test results according to federal standards.

Required profile

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to pass a pre‑employment background investigation.
  • Valid state driver’s license and ability to maintain a bank account for direct deposit.
  • Pass a high‑altitude physical examination.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑10 level, including technical support for state‑of‑the‑art digital systems.
  • Ability to meet time‑in‑grade requirements if currently in a federal GS position.

Required skills

  • Experience with antenna servo and motor/brake systems.
  • Proficiency in analog and digital electronics troubleshooting.
  • Fabrication of chassis, cable harnesses, and multilayer PCBs.
  • Use of high‑speed digital oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers.
  • Knowledge of FPGAs, ASICs, DSPs, and related ICs.
  • Understanding of 480 VAC power distribution and wiring standards.
