Job description

About the role

Impulse Space is seeking Electrical Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Engineers at all experience levels to design, build and deploy the systems that interface directly with flight hardware during vehicle integration, test and launch operations. The role develops robust electrical ground systems that enable rapid testing, seamless integration and reliable launches, working closely with avionics, propulsion, software, structures, test and operations teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Own EGSE hardware through its full lifecycle: architecture, schematic development, fabrication, integration, validation and deployment.
  • Design, develop, integrate and support electrical ground systems used for engine testing, vehicle integration and launch operations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with avionics, propulsion, software, test and operations teams to deliver reliable systems on aggressive schedules.
  • Support bring-up, troubleshooting, calibration and functional verification of EGSE hardware and interfaces.
  • Develop interface control documents (ICDs), schematics, wiring documentation and engineering release drawings.
  • Ensure systems meet operational, reliability and safety requirements for test and launch environments.
  • Drive continuous improvement of GSE design standards, integration processes and documentation.
  • Senior-level candidates mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience designing, building and deploying EGSE, avionics integration hardware or other high-reliability electrical systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical system design fundamentals, including signal integrity, grounding, shielding and power distribution.
  • Hands-on experience with sourcing instrumentation, hardware integration, electrical testing and system troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with aerospace and industrial communication protocols (Ethernet, RS-422, CAN) and networking (TCP/IP, CAT5, serial protocols).
  • Ability to work in fast-paced development and test environments.

Preferred skills and experience

  • Rack-level system design, harnessing or enclosure integration for avionics or RF products.
  • CAD tools such as NX for mechanical integration and layout.
  • Test automation, scripting or controls software (Python, MATLAB).
  • Aerospace ground systems standards (NASA, ASME, API, Air Force).
  • Prior experience supporting launch campaigns, propulsion testing or integrated vehicle operations.

What we offer

  • Pay range of $100,000 to $170,000 per year, depending on role, level, location and skills.
  • For full-time hires, possible long-term incentives in the form of stock options.
  • Medical, vision and dental coverage and a 401(k) retirement plan.
