Electrical Engineer – Power Generation

About the role

HDR is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support utility‑scale power and renewable energy projects. You will work on power generation design, lead multiple engineering tasks, and contribute to client relationships and marketing activities.

Key responsibilities

• Support and lead power generation design projects, including protection, motor control, and balance‑of‑plant systems.
• Develop construction specifications, equipment selections, raceway, lighting, and grounding designs.
• Mentor junior engineers and assist with proposal writing, fee builds, and work breakdown structures.
• Conduct work sessions, project meetings, and construction contract administration alongside the Project Manager.
• Develop schematic design and contract documents, and participate in on‑site reviews.

Required profile

• Experience in utility‑scale power, renewable energy, and power generation design.
• Background in protection and motor control design, power system studies, and balance‑of‑plant engineering.
• Interest or experience with renewable energy sources and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
• Ability to obtain a Texas Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or reciprocity.
• Willingness to grow into a team‑lead or section‑manager role.

Required skills

• Protection and control design, setting calculations, and electronic file development.
• Instrumentation and controls experience, especially DCS and PLC systems.
• Three‑phase electrical power, system grounding, lighting, and life‑safety system design.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and design software such as ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, CYMCAD, and PSCAD.
