About the role
We are looking for a motivated Electrical Engineer Intern to join Saronic Technologies this summer (2027) in Austin. You will work on the design, development, testing, and optimisation of autonomous surface vessels that support national security and maritime innovation.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in engineering, design, and prototype development of electro‑mechanical systems and software for autonomous vehicles.
- Monitor test runs, collect and organise data, and perform basic data‑analysis to identify performance trends.
- Support testing and validation of vessel autonomy algorithms, including navigation, object detection and collision avoidance.
- Help with power calculations, measurements and evaluation of vessel performance.
- Research and implement sensor integration, data processing and machine‑learning solutions.
- Contribute to integration of propulsion, control surfaces and onboard equipment.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot and refine prototypes.
- Document progress, prepare reports and present findings.
- Use hand and power tools, Arduino and Raspberry Pi for hardware prototyping.
Required profile
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Electrical Engineering, Computational Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or a related field.
- Basic software experience with Python, C/C++ and Linux.
- Hands‑on experience with electrical or electro‑mechanical systems, including testing or repair.
- Familiarity with power calculations, low‑voltage systems and, preferably, three‑phase AC.
- Exposure to schematic development, SPICE simulations, PCB design and networking (Ethernet, CAN, serial).
- Experience with sensors, data acquisition and engineering report writing.
