Electrical Engineer – Industrial I/O & Control Systems

About the role

Applied Materials’ Platform Center of Excellence Controls Hardware Team is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead the selection, integration, validation, and deployment of industrial I/O and control system technologies for advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate, develop, and deploy industrial I/O and machine control system solutions across product lines.
• Lead integration and validation of commercial and custom I/O platforms, including controllers and safety systems.
• Support implementation of industrial networking technologies such as EtherCAT and ensure functional safety compliance.
• Collaborate with product engineering, software, firmware, manufacturing, and quality teams to deliver solutions that meet performance, cost, and schedule goals.
• Manage technical relationships with automation suppliers and drive roadmap alignment.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience in industrial automation, machine controls, or semiconductor equipment development.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Proven ability to work within cross‑functional teams and influence technical decisions.

Required skills

• EtherCAT, Beckhoff, DDI, PLC‑based controls, distributed I/O systems.
• Industrial networking (Ethernet‑based protocols, serial communication).
• Functional safety, safety controllers, machine safety architectures, SEMI S2 standards.
• Industrial automation hardware, remote I/O, machine control platforms.
