About the role
OTTO Engineering’s Communications Division is seeking an Electrical Engineer III to design and develop rugged communication and power‑management hardware for military, law‑enforcement and public‑safety customers. The role spans the full product lifecycle from concept through production, emphasizing analog, digital, audio and battery‑powered system design.
Key responsibilities
- Lead full‑cycle hardware development, including design, bring‑up, HW/SW integration, validation, factory support and customer assistance.
- Select and qualify components for performance, reliability and manufacturability.
- Architect digital interfaces and sensor subsystems (SDIO, I²C, SPI, UART, JTAG, GPS, IMUs, etc.).
- Develop audio circuitry using A/D, D/A converters, power amps and op‑amps.
- Design advanced analog blocks such as filters, linear and switch‑mode power supplies, and battery‑monitoring circuits.
- Create production‑ready documentation: schematics (Altium), BOMs, ECNs, test plans and specifications.
- Guide PCB layout for high‑speed routing, impedance control, power distribution and EMC compliance.
- Perform hands‑on troubleshooting with oscilloscopes, DMMs and lab equipment, and lead reliability, EMC and failure‑analysis testing.
Required profile
- BSEE degree and U.S. citizenship.
- 5+ years of concept‑to‑production experience in digital, analog and audio circuit design.
- Proficiency with microprocessor interfaces (SDIO, I²C, SPI, UART, JTAG, etc.) and sensor/audio subsystems.
- Strong knowledge of Bluetooth, USB and related communication protocols.
- Experience with battery‑system design, EMC/ESD mitigation and failure analysis.
- Hands‑on skill with oscilloscopes, DMMs and lab test equipment.
Required skills
- Digital, analog and audio circuit design.
- Interface protocols: SDIO, I²C, SPI, RS‑232, UART, JTAG, parallel/serial.
- Sensor and audio components: GPS, accelerometers, IMUs, speakers, microphones.
- Connectivity: Bluetooth, USB.
- Altium for schematic capture and PCB layout.
- EMC/ESD mitigation techniques.
- Battery charging and power‑management circuit design.
- Failure‑analysis and reliability testing.

- Base salary $90,000 – $105,000 per year.
