Early Childhood Substitute Teacher

About the role

The Douglas Family Early Childhood Center at Sinai Akiba Academy is seeking dedicated substitute teachers to support children ages 18 months to 5 years. This on‑call, part‑time position works alongside a diverse teaching team to deliver play‑based learning in a warm, creative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and facilitate enriching play and learning activities.
• Assist with classroom setup, cleanup, diaper changing, snack and lunch preparation, and outdoor supervision.
• Maintain a safe, inviting environment in indoor and outdoor spaces.
• Follow school licensing protocols and reporting requirements.
• Model and uphold Sinai Akiba’s mission and core values.

Required profile

• At least 12 semester units in Child Development or Early Childhood Education, including core courses.
• Availability to work in‑person, part‑time, between 7:45 am and 3:30 pm as needed.
• Commitment to the school’s mission and to supporting each child’s success.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Successful DOJ/FBI background check and completion of California Mandated Reporter training within 90 days.

Required skills

• Understanding of play‑based learning and child social‑emotional development.
