Drainage Project Engineer

About the role

Volkert is seeking an experienced Drainage Project Engineer to support transportation and water resources projects across its Southwest Texas region. The role involves designing stormwater management, drainage, and erosion control systems for TxDOT‑related improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and analyze data for project plans and reports.
• Design stormwater, storm drain, soil erosion, and sediment control systems using engineering software.
• Develop and analyze hydrologic and hydraulic models for Transportation Improvement Projects.
• Obtain permits from regulatory and water‑management agencies.
• Prepare and modify engineering reports, calculations, construction details, cost estimates, and specifications.
• Review quantity estimates, drawings, and calculations for compliance with TxDOT standards.
• Assist with project scheduling and coordinate across disciplines, sub‑consultants, and other professionals.
• Oversee design activities, supervise production staff, and mentor junior designers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineering licensure preferred or obtainable within 6 months.
• 4‑6 years of progressive drainage/water‑resources experience, including TxDOT projects.
• Valid driver’s license and satisfactory motor‑vehicle record.
• Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug screening.
