Donor Experience Officer – University Relations

About the role

The University of Maryland’s Division of University Relations is seeking a motivated Donor Experience Officer to connect donors with philanthropic opportunities across campus. Reporting to the Director of Donor Experience and Leadership Giving, the DXO will use digital tools to express gratitude, steward relationships, and solicit support.

Key responsibilities

• Cultivate current donors and solicit renewed or upgraded gifts from alumni, friends, parents, and other constituents.
• Manage a portfolio of approximately 1,000 prospects, meeting metrics for visits, solicitations, dollars raised, and referrals.
• Provide a concierge‑style approach, advising donors on resources and giving opportunities.
• Execute personalized 1:1 outreach campaigns using CRM, social media, and video‑conferencing tools.
• Maintain monthly and quarterly touchpoint cadences to ensure consistent communication.
• Identify new leadership annual‑giving and major‑gift prospects, qualify visits, and generate new pledges.
• Make referrals to university‑wide major‑gift officers as appropriate.
• Deliver timely post‑visit follow‑up, tracking moves and sending personalized communications.
• Attend university‑wide events and University Relations meetings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• At least two years of experience in fundraising, annual giving, donor relations, marketing, sales, operations, or customer service.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate the university’s mission.
• Data‑centric mindset with basic problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
• Experience using social media platforms for outreach.
• Familiarity with video‑conferencing software tools.
