Director of Software Engineering

About the role

The Director of Software Engineering will lead the technology and development organization for LexisNexis CounselLink. Based in Raleigh, NC, you will shape the technical direction, drive platform modernization, and ensure high‑quality product delivery across multiple engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Set and enforce architectural and engineering standards for the CounselLink suite.
• Manage, coach, hire and retain engineering managers, senior engineers and technical leads.
• Partner with product management, architecture, security, operations and business stakeholders to align delivery with strategic goals.
• Oversee development on AWS, Java‑based services, enterprise search (Solr), LLM‑enabled features, Model Context Protocol integrations and MCP applications.
• Drive Agile processes, test‑driven development, code quality, design and architecture reviews.
• Monitor technical metrics to inform business decisions and ensure operational excellence.

Required profile

• 12+ years of software development experience with at least 5 years in engineering management.
• Proven track record leading multiple engineering teams and delivering large‑scale SaaS products.
• BS in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.
• Experience in enterprise SaaS, cloud platforms, and domains such as legal technology, workflow or compliance is a plus.

Required skills

• Strong expertise in AWS cloud services.
• Deep knowledge of Java/J2EE enterprise application development.
• Experience with Apache Solr or similar enterprise search technologies.
• Practical understanding of LLM‑based application development and production readiness.
• Familiarity with Model Context Protocol, MCP servers, clients and apps.
• Solid background in database technology, data modeling and complex data systems.
• Proficiency with Agile methodologies and test‑driven development practices.
