Director of Product Design

About the role

Replit is seeking a Director of Product Design to lead its Product Design organization. Reporting to the Co‑Founder & Head of Design, this player‑coach role blends hands‑on design work with people leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day operations of the product design team, ensuring alignment, prioritisation and high‑quality delivery.
• Mentor, develop and grow a team of product designers, fostering craft, confidence and impact.
• Collaborate closely with designers on whiteboarding, concept exploration and complex interaction challenges.
• Provide context and insights to enable rapid, high‑impact design critique from senior leadership.
• Elevate design quality through feedback, strong design taste and refined processes.
• Recruit, hire and onboard top product design talent as the organization scales.

Required profile

• Significant experience leading product design teams in high‑growth tech companies.
• Proven ability to balance people leadership with hands‑on design contribution.
• Strong product judgment, design taste and technical fluency.
• Collaborative, humble and curious mindset with excellent communication skills.

Required skills

• Portfolio demonstrating exceptional interaction design, product thinking and systems thinking.
• Experience partnering with Product and Engineering to deliver technically sophisticated products.
• Ability to simplify complex technical products into elegant user experiences.
