Director of Operations

About the role

Virginia Transformer, the largest U.S.-owned power transformer manufacturer, is seeking a senior leader to head manufacturing operations at its Roanoke, Virginia plant. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations / COO, the Director of Operations will be accountable for all aspects of production, safety, quality and continuous improvement, driving the plant’s growth and profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all plant functions including manufacturing, production, maintenance, materials management, logistics, planning and continuous improvement.
• Develop and execute operational strategies that support company growth, capacity expansion and profitability targets.
• Ensure optimal utilization of labor, equipment, facilities and other resources.
• Lead department managers and manufacturing leaders, setting performance targets and monitoring results through operational metrics.
• Foster a world‑class safety culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA, environmental and company standards and leading safety improvement initiatives.
• Drive accountability, risk reduction and regulatory compliance across the plant.

Required profile

• Proven executive‑level experience leading large‑scale manufacturing operations, preferably with engineered‑to‑order or capital‑equipment products.
• Track record of building high‑performing teams in fast‑growth environments.
• Demonstrated ability to increase manufacturing capacity, improve productivity and achieve on‑time delivery of high‑quality products.
• Strong understanding of safety, compliance and continuous‑improvement methodologies.
