Director of Licensing – Physical Sciences & Engineering

About the role

The Director of Licensing – Physical Sciences & Engineering leads the commercialization of physical‑science and engineering technologies across the Texas A&M University System. Reporting to Texas A&M Innovation, this senior leader builds a high‑performing licensing team and serves as the public face of the office with faculty, industry partners and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the commercialization strategy for domains such as advanced materials, semiconductors, photonics, energy, manufacturing, defense, transportation and digital technologies.
• Recruit, develop and manage a specialized licensing team focused on physical‑science and engineering portfolios.
• Create annual and multi‑year plans for portfolio growth, licensing revenue, startup creation and industry engagement.
• Foster strong relationships with faculty, researchers, campus offices and external partners to identify and advance high‑impact technologies.
• Represent Texas A&M Innovation at meetings, conferences and events to enhance the office’s reputation as a trusted commercialization partner.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in technology transfer, licensing or commercialization of physical‑science or engineering innovations.
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead high‑performing teams.
• Strong network within academia, industry and government agencies relevant to the target technology sectors.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
