Director of Internal Controls

About the role

The Director of Internal Controls will design, implement and continuously improve Bergey's internal control environment, ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance and operational effectiveness. This senior position works closely with Finance, IT, Legal, HR and operating leaders across an organization of roughly 2,000 employees.

Key responsibilities

• Own and maintain the company’s internal control framework, including entity‑level, process‑level and IT‑dependent controls.
• Design, document and periodically update control policies, procedures and narratives across finance, operations and supporting functions.
• Lead enterprise‑wide risk assessments covering financial, operational, IT and compliance risks; identify gaps and develop remediation plans.
• Serve as primary contact for external auditors and third‑party reviewers, coordinating walkthroughs, documentation requests and control testing.
• Track findings, deficiencies and remediation progress to resolution; support internal governance, lender requirements and regulatory examinations.
• Assist M&A integration by assessing inherited risks, stabilising Day 1 controls and harmonising policies, process narratives and system controls post‑close.

Required profile

• Strong technical expertise in internal controls and risk management.
• Practical business judgment to ensure controls are effective, scalable and aligned with operational realities.
• Ability to collaborate with Finance, IT, Legal, HR and operating leaders.
