Director of Events & Engagement

About the role

The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington seeks a senior leader to own the strategy, planning and execution of its signature events, donor experiences and leadership gatherings. This role blends high‑level vision with hands‑on delivery to create memorable experiences that advance fundraising and community engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the strategy, planning and execution of the Federation’s flagship events, donor experiences and leadership gatherings.
• Personally manage the most complex, high‑profile events from concept through delivery.
• Develop event concepts, program content, speaker preparation and participant experiences aligned with fundraising and engagement goals.
• Advise Executive Leadership on event strategy, design and audience engagement.
• Establish standards, tools and best practices to elevate event planning across the organization.
• Coordinate cross‑functional planning, ensuring clarity on priorities, timelines, roles and responsibilities.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with lay leaders, volunteers, vendors and community partners.
• Supervise, coach and develop the Events team.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading large‑scale, high‑impact events in a nonprofit or similar environment.
• Strong ability to balance strategic thinking with detailed execution.
• Excellent collaboration skills with senior executives, speakers and community leaders.
• Demonstrated leadership in building and developing event teams.
