Director of Construction

About the role

The University of Georgia’s Office of University Architects is seeking a Director of Construction to lead the planning, design, and delivery of major capital projects across all UGA campuses. This senior position reports to senior university leadership and collaborates closely with academic, facilities, and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the university’s construction strategy in alignment with the campus master plan.
• Oversee all phases of capital projects, from feasibility and budgeting to construction and close‑out.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and risk mitigation to ensure timely, cost‑effective delivery.
• Coordinate historic preservation, environmental, transportation, and precinct planning initiatives.
• Maintain compliance with state regulations, university policies, and safety standards.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in large‑scale construction and capital project management, preferably in higher‑education or public‑sector environments.
• Proven leadership ability with experience managing complex, multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
