Director, Global Media Relations

About the role

The Director, Global Media Relations leads media strategy and supports worldwide media activities for Elsevier, a leading information and decision‑support company. This remote role collaborates with segment teams, agencies and business partners to shape messaging, manage media inquiries and drive brand positioning.

Key responsibilities

• Lead media strategy and support global media activities tied to commercial launches, campaigns, thought‑leadership initiatives and executive communications.
• Collaborate with segment teams on messaging, bylined articles, pitches and other media content.
• Work with agencies and business partners in key markets to achieve media goals and advise business segments.
• Handle media inquiries, strategic planning, tracking and measurement for global media activities.
• Maintain deep understanding of technology, regulation and industry best practices through ongoing education and conference attendance.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience in media relations or corporate communications within a global, matrixed organization or agency.
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Established relationships and credibility with journalists covering science, healthcare, technology or business.
• Proven experience advising senior executives on media strategy, positioning and crisis response.
• Strong news judgment and writing ability to translate complex scientific topics for a general audience.

Required skills

• Experience managing external PR agencies and cross‑functional stakeholders without formal authority.
• Advanced verbal communication, policy and procedures, project schedule management, corporate relations initiatives, media measurement and analytics.
