Director, Federal Affairs

About the role

The Director of Federal Affairs will advocate for the coatings industry’s top priorities, reporting to the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs. The role involves managing fast‑paced conversations on housing, trade, chemicals management and more, while building relationships with members of Congress and industry stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and maintain relationships with key policymakers.
• Analyze legislative proposals and craft industry responses.
• Develop and execute legislative strategies and grassroots efforts.
• Participate in meetings, hearings, fundraisers and political functions.
• Support ACA’s Government and Regulatory Affairs Committee and collaborate with internal teams.
• Monitor political activities and assist with facility tours and DC fly‑ins.

Required profile

• Minimum BA in political science, legislative policy or related field.
• At least five years of legislative experience on Capitol Hill or in a trade association.
• Willingness to travel as required.

Required skills

• Robust knowledge of the political and legislative process.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Strong problem‑solving and follow‑through abilities.
