Director, Development

About the role

The Philanthropy Officer will partner with the Senior Director of Development to lead fundraising initiatives for the Neurosciences program within the Miller School of Medicine. This position is a key member of the Medical Development team, focused on securing philanthropic gifts that advance the university’s mission of teaching, research, and service.

Key responsibilities

• Identify prospective donors and funding sources in collaboration with faculty, staff, and volunteers.
• Develop and execute cultivation and solicitation plans tailored to each donor segment.
• Maintain regular communication and stewardship, including acknowledgments, re‑solicitations, and progress updates.
• Assist donors and prospects with appointment scheduling and facilitation of clinical encounters.
• Coordinate with medical departments, other schools, and central development to ensure alignment of fundraising goals.
• Acquire in‑depth knowledge of departmental needs and program priorities.
• Document all contacts, communications, visits, and proposals in the i-BIS donor management system.

Required profile

• Experience in philanthropy, fundraising, or donor relations, preferably within a medical or higher‑education setting.
• Strong collaborative skills to work with faculty, staff, and external volunteers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Detail‑oriented with the capacity to manage multiple donor relationships simultaneously.
