Diesel Mechanic – Vehicle Maintenance

About the role

The City of Jeffersonville is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join its Vehicle Maintenance department. This full‑time position involves maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of diesel and gasoline‑powered city vehicles and equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical and electronic issues, determine required parts, labor, and time, and complete purchase order tickets.
• Perform repairs such as ignition system installation, wheel alignment, battery service, transmission replacement, and engine overhauls.
• Provide roadside repair services for city vehicles, including front‑end loaders, lawn mowers, garbage trucks, and other equipment.
• Conduct preventive maintenance tasks like oil changes, lubrication, and safety‑device inspections.
• Order and manage parts inventory, record repair costs, and maintain accurate maintenance logs.
• Operate a variety of hand and power tools, including drill presses, grinders, saws, air tools, cutting torches, and MIG welders.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum six years of experience in vehicle maintenance and electronic system repair.
• Strong knowledge of safety protocols and tool usage for vehicle and equipment repair.

Required skills

• Diagnostic troubleshooting of diesel and gasoline engines.
• Electronic system repair.
• Operation of hand tools and power tools (drill press, grinder, saws, air tools).
• Cutting torches and MIG welding.
