Desktop Support Technician

About the role

The University of Miami’s Office of Classroom Management is seeking a full‑time Desktop Support Technician to maintain and support classroom technology across its campuses. The role involves hands‑on installation, troubleshooting, and repair of AV and instructional equipment, as well as providing training and timely assistance to faculty, staff, and students.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, and repair classroom AV and instructional technology.
• Provide prompt, courteous customer service and follow‑up communication for support requests.
• Deliver faculty training on classroom technology tools.
• Prioritize and organize support tickets, coordinating with the OCM Director, vendors, and university stakeholders.
• Monitor equipment status via dedicated software and maintain accurate hardware/software inventory records.
• Assist with procurement, receiving, and inventory inspection of technology assets.
• Participate in planning, design, installation, and testing of new classroom systems.
• Act as liaison between OCM and other university departments, supporting event scheduling and special projects.

Required profile

• Strong customer‑service orientation with the ability to communicate technical information clearly.
• Ability to work evenings, high‑peak periods, and weekends as needed.
• Good judgment, organization, and the capacity to prioritize multiple requests.

Required skills

• Installation, troubleshooting, configuration, and repair of classroom AV equipment.
• Use of monitoring and inventory management software.
• Basic knowledge of procurement and inventory processes for technology assets.
