Designer II – Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Oceaneering is looking for a Designer II to create layout, assembly and detail drawings for complex power and control systems used in underwater electromechanical projects. The role supports US Navy, DoD and ADTECH customers and is based in Chesapeake, VA, with occasional domestic travel.

Key responsibilities

• Develop mechanical parts and assemblies from high‑level concepts using SolidWorks for moderately complex equipment.
• Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure efficient production, assembly and integration.
• Validate the technical accuracy and completeness of models and drafting outputs.
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings and layouts with SolidWorks or SolidWorks Electrical.
• Interface with customers through email, phone or presentations to discuss requirements and project updates.

Required profile

• Associate degree in Mechanical Design or related field, or 5 years of relevant experience.
• Minimum 2 years of applied drafting experience, preferably in marine design.
• At least 5 years of hands‑on SolidWorks solid‑modeling experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Understanding of ASME Y14 drafting standards.
