Designer – Children’s Licensing & Media (NYC)

About the role
Scholastic’s Children’s Licensing, Brands & Media Trade Art Department is seeking a creative Designer to lead the design of school‑market publishing and non‑fiction titles. Based in New York City with a hybrid schedule, you will own the visual development of 7+ titles each season, ranging from preschool to young adult audiences.
Key responsibilities
- Conceptualize and design book covers and interior layouts for 20+ titles per year, including original and licensed content.
- Lead cover ideation, select artists, and manage illustrator, packager, and freelance designer relationships.
- Coordinate project timelines with editors, ensuring schedules and deadlines are met.
- Communicate project status, challenges, and solutions to editorial and production teams.
- Collaborate with licensors, vendors, and internal teams to maintain brand consistency and stay within budget.
- Identify growth opportunities and propose innovative creative services.
Required profile
- Proven experience designing multiple publishing projects per season.
- Strong project‑management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Familiarity with licensor style guides and brand guidelines.
Required skills
- Expertise in book cover and interior design.
- Ability to work with illustrators, packagers, and freelance designers.
- Knowledge of publishing production processes.
