Designer 3 – Shipbuilding Design Engineer

About the role

The Designer 3 will create and modify component designs for naval vessels, supporting manufacturing and ensuring compliance with engineering, tooling and material requirements. This position uses advanced CAD/CAM tools to develop detailed layouts and sketches that drive shipbuilding projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design components or system sections and update existing designs to improve product performance.
• Produce rough layouts, sketches and detailed drawings using CAD, CAM or CATIA.
• Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material and planning teams.
• Ensure designs meet ease‑of‑manufacture, material availability and contractual specifications.
• Review and verify design outputs for accuracy and compliance.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED with 7 years of relevant experience, or an Associate’s degree (or similar 2‑year technical degree) with 3 years of experience.
• Additional 5 years of design experience is preferred.
• Strong ability to work with design and engineering teams in a fast‑paced shipbuilding environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD, CAM and CATIA.
• Experience using Microsoft Office, Ship Constructor and AutoCAD.
• Ability to check and validate design products.
