Designer 3 – Ship Component Design

About the role

Ingalls Shipbuilding is seeking a Designer 3 to create and improve ship components and system portions. The role involves using advanced computer‑aided design tools to develop designs that meet manufacturing, material, and contractual requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Design new components or modify existing designs for naval vessels.
• Produce rough layouts, sketches, and detailed drawings using CAD/CAM/CATIA.
• Perform calculations, studies, and gather technical information to support design proposals.
• Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning teams.
• Ensure designs are manufacturable, meet material availability, and comply with contractual specifications.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED with at least 7 years of relevant experience, OR an Associate’s degree (or other 2‑year technical degree) with at least 3 years of experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in design engineering, preferably in shipbuilding or related heavy‑industry environments.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD, CAM, and CATIA software.
• Experience using Microsoft Office, Ship Constructor, and AutoCAD.
• Ability to review and verify design products.
